A Typical Week - Course content will be presented one chapter per week.  On Mondays the new chapter will be introduced during the first half of the period, followed by either an 'Outline' or 'Section Review' assignment.  Section Review assignments often times include- end of chapter exercises and other miscellaneous chapter exercises.  Tuesdays generally include continued lecture on various chapter topics and the issuance of 'Activity' worksheets.  Wednesdays generally allow for a 'wrap-up' of chapter topics and issuance of 'Workbook' exercises.  Thursdays are the 'flex' days during the week.  Assignments not yet complete, or missed due to an earlier absence are to be completed using this time.  Students who have kept pace are provided an Extra Credit assignment.  Its not uncommon for the "A" and "B": students to be the ones earning the privilege of doing the Extra Credit assignments, though this is not always the case.  Thursdays are also used to enrich the learning of M,T, & W  (videos, class games, computer research, etc.).  Fridays are almost always given to review of the chapter topics, taking of the chapter test and informing students of weekly grades.

Class Rules - Expectations for the class are simple and straight forward.

  • Maintain good attendance and be on time.
  • Be productive (stay on task).
  • Do your own work.
  • And, Respect the rights of others to learn.

Homework Assignments - There are no homework assignments as such, however, assignments not completed during the class period become homework assignments.  Generally speaking assignments can be completed by the majority of students during the time allotted.  While textbook are not to leave the classroom, xeroxed copies of the chapters can be obtained at the end of the period if requested.

Late Work - Assignments not turned in prior to the 'Chapter Test Date' are considered late and will result in an automatically reduced score. The longer one waits the lower the assignment score.  Lecture note scores can not be made up.  It is intended that all related assignments be completed prior to taking the test.  Tests can be made up at anytime during the session, but must be done on the students time (before or after school, during 3rd period with assigned teacher permission, or during the lunch period.

Final Exams and Benchmark Exams - Both these examinations are part of every course and will impact final grade.  Each of these is comprehensive in nature and are presented in a variety of formats ( T/F, multiple choice, matching, etc.).

Copy Policy - As previously stated, students are to do their own work.  Copying the work or answers from another student will result in lower scores for all students involved.  It is my policy to divide the total score for the assignment amongst the number of students involved.  Having warned the students at the onset of the course, I do not spend time trying to figure out who originated the work and who copied, all students share the same low score.

Textbooks

Grading Policies and Scale

Grades are based on 50% classwork, 50% tests, quizes and projects. Since classwork is such a large percentage of the student grade, the student is expected to attend and complete classwork on a daily basis. Test reviews, projects, and quizes will help the student prepare for Unit tests.

In keeping with the policy approved by the Board, the grades are evaluated based on a simple formula.

The Grading Scale:

100-90%  A

89-80%    B

79-70%    C

69-60%    D

59% and below F
